Marley has gotten so big. I think he's full-grown now. Check him out...
Onyx has decided that his bedroom crate is now HERS, which is fine because he sleeps in our bed. Here she is, claiming her new space...
We are usually on a cruise at Christmas so we don't do the whole decorating thing. This year we're traveling in January so I felt the need to do a little something. I made a tree using branches from our yard and I love it!
Today is Onyx's 18th birthday. I got her the best present ever...a trip to the vet! She got a happy birthday catnip toy, which she attacked as soon as we got home.
She's in excellent health for her age...even with her renal failure! I can't believe it. The vet said she has great muscle mass and her organs feel good. Eyes clear, nose moist, gums pink. She said to just keep doing what we're doing—subcutaneous fluids every other day and Alternagel 2x a day.
Once she was good and high from the catnip, she attacked the special new toy her Daddy left for her: a chirping bird thingamabober.
Today I shot some video of Marley "playing" with Onyx. Crank up the sound so you can hear just how much fun she's having...
In January, Onyx's kidneys failed and she spent four days in the hospital. The awful vet told us that she may not make it home, and IF she did it wouldn't be for long. Well, here we are 9 1/2 months later (knock on wood) celebrating her 17th birthday—yes, seventeen. She suffers from chronic renal failure so we have to give her subcutaneous fluids every other day, but her creatinine and BUN levels are now "age appropriate" and—according to her new vet, the wonderful Dr. Shanker—she should live "a long, long time." This little girl has been with me through thick and thin and I love her to pieces.
Happy Birthday Onyx!
Marley will sleep anywhere and in any position.
He even sleeps standing up and face-down at the same time...
Every day with him is hysterical. Of course Onyx has had just about enough of his squeaking and housebreaking issues. She often looks like she's thinking, "Oh. My. God. I thought we took care of this a year ago!" This is clearly not the way she wants to be spending her golden years, so she escapes from it all in her garden...
