Adam and I had to check out Jazzercise while vacationing in Cancún...of course!
Now we can say we're International Jazzercise Instructors, right? Sonia is going to try and hook up with us in New Orleans for Tres Jazz 2008. Too fun!
OMG I am going to the 2008 International Jazzercise Convention! That's right folks, Jazzercise for four days and three nights. Does it get any better?! I think not! Not only have I never been to a "jazzerjam" but I've never been to The Big Easy. We're totally booked and I can't wait. New Orleans, here I come!
Last Saturday we had a big celebration of in honor of Adam becoming an instructor. It was the best party ever! A whole bunch of students, instructors and friends came out to toast our very own Boomer. It was really special. Here he is with his humongous cake. (Just for scale, he is sitting at a standard card table.)
Boomer is pictured on the cake with Judi Sheppard Missett (Founder/CEO) and Shanna Missett Nelson (Executive Vice President) of Jazzercise Inc.
Of course we put Adam right to work! On Independence Day we team-taught a class at Fisher Middle School in Los Gatos. (L-R: Cheryl, Catherine, Adam, Eva and Lori)
EIGHTY STUDENTS came out for the fun; it was awesome!
Here's another picture of our students dancing their hearts out. The question is, wtf is Adam doing?
I guess he's excited about being an instructor.

Now a much wider array of fitness classes is available.
Three of the biggest names in aerobic dance and exercise, Judi Sheppard Missett, Kathy Smith and Tamilee Webb, speak Sunday at the IDEA Health & Fitness Association's convention in San Diego.
Jazzercise's founder wants kids to feel that 'fitness is fun'
Judi Sheppard, Missett, 63, Oceanside, Calif.
• Fitness connection: She founded Jazzercise in 1969 and is president of the company, which has 6,800 franchises that offer 30,000 classes weekly. A Jazzercise class includes elements of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing movements. Missett has made about 25 DVDs, videos and albums.
•Biggest changes in the fitness industry over the past 25 years: "Diversification. When I first started, dance fitness was the big thing, but now there are different kinds of classes — yoga, Pilates, spinning, pump. The trend toward personal training has been a change as well."
•Biggest exercise mistake people make: "Not doing something that you like. You have to find something that you really like, otherwise you won't continue. The second mistake is thinking that exercise is the cure-all for everything. You have to eat right, too."
•Best idea for getting motivated: "You have to be unafraid to try different things. The second thing you have to do is find other people who will help you continue: Find a buddy in class, find someone to walk with in the evening or bike with or go to (a pool) and swim with. You need a few friends who will keep you on track who are also interested in the same things."
•Best way to exercise to lose weight: "You need to combine cardiovascular exercise with weight training. You've got to do that at least three or four times a week, and then move toward doing it every day. I'm a big advocate of exercising seven days a week, but put a little variety into it."
•Future of fitness: "I'm working to motivate kids to understand that fitness is fun. They need to put it into their everyday life at a young age so they grow up with it, like I did. I started dancing when I was 2½, and I've always had exercise in my life."
We are having a special "Bring a Friend" promotion through May 14th. Come to my class and get a free week of Jazzercise! I'm teaching tonight, Saturday the 5th, Thursday the 10th and Sunday the 13th. Email me for locations if you are interested. Hope to see you there!
"...I'm still, I'm still Eva from the block."
Is he the best, or what?! Holy crap, I LOVE IT! Thanks Adam, you're the best! XOXO
Today I decided to convert one of our spare closets into my own personal Jazzertogs space. It is magnificent!
Yeah, I know, you non-Jazzercise peeps are scratching your heads right about now. But trust me, instructors around the world are drooling at this very moment. Here's an in-depth look...
A—My logo tops, organized by color.
B—Room for more. A girl's gotta dream.
C—Misc shorts for practicing at home in the summer.
D—Jazzercise tees (street clothes)
E—Jazz pants: specialty, capris, new capris, long pants
F—Jazzercise jackets and coverups
G—Adam's "Sidekick" jacket and his portion of the closet.
See how nice I am for sharing?
TODAY was SUCH an AWESOME day. This morning (5:30am), we went to IHRSA's 26th Annual International Convention & Trade Show in San Francisco to take a special "Kick It to The Core" Jazzercise class from THE Judi Sheppard Missett herself. What better way to spend a day off?! I was so excited; I can't even tell you. It was my first resistance ball class, and my first class with Judi!
We made the pilgrimage with a handful of dedicated students—back row: Tracy, Susan, Marsha, Tina, Robin, Georgia; middle row: Luann, Gail, Eva, Catherine, Jan; front row: Adam, of course.
To our surprise, Shanna came to teach as well! I got to meet her at our district meeting last year. She is just delightful. Mother and daughter welcomed everyone before the big event...
It was SUCH an incredible class—tons of core work with the tube and ball, and some cardio too. We got a sneak peek at the new routines they'll be taping in Orlando next month. There are some super fun ones! Judi made wonderful remarks at the end of class—She loves her instructors and students and is dedicated to providing us with a fun and effective workout set to fantastic, original music. She never forgets that it is all about us. OMG I love her. Seriously.
After class we introduced Adam to Shanna. She congratulated him and wished him luck at Workshop in June.
As we were leaving Moscone Center, Adam decided to break out some moves on the guys outside.
It was decided (yes, I was outvoted) that Bloody Marys were in order, so we stopped at a place in Woodside called Buck's. This place is somethin' else. The decor is crazy. There's stuff hanging from the ceiling and odd collectibles everywhere. They even had an antique San Quentin prisioner intake log, complete with photos and descriptions of the crimes. Wow. The photo didn't come out, but here's a sampling of other wacky stuff...
Luann and Adam loved their Bloody Marys because they came with "corn on the cob" instead of celery...
It was a fun and gorgeous spring day...and it's only Friday! Whoo hoo!
Last night we (instructors from South Bay Jazzercise and the Sunnyvale Jazzercise Center) did a Jazzercise performance at Hotel Sofitel for The Community Breast Health Project "Fit for Life Goes to the Tropics" fashion show and fundraiser.
Here's a snippet from the CBHP's press release:
Clothes will be modeled by breast cancer survivors, ranging in age from
in their 30's to 80 years old, most of whom are CBHP clients who have
benefited directly from this organization. Fit for Life retail partners
are 4 Clothing, Calla, Chico’s, Brighton Collectibles, Lucy, Tommy
Bahama, Talbots, and Harold’s. Jazzercise instructors add to the
evening’s energy with a fitness workout for all to enjoy.
Here we are, looking all tropical and cute—Jill, Cheryl, Lori, Eva, Catherine and Nicole...
Our district manager—Nancy—came to support us...
Of course our "Sidekick" was on hand to take pictures and be our sherpa; Six women can have a lot of bags. Thanks Adam! Everyone did a great job and I'm really proud of all of us! Good job ladies, woot!
OK so get this...I sent our Jazzercise anniversary photo to Trent from "Pink is the New Blog" and he posted it!!! It seems he took it as a Happy Anniversary wish from us to him and his boyfriend David. Too cute!
For those of you who don't know, Trent is the master of all celebrity gossip sites. It's like People Magazine with added snappy commentary. Check out today's entry...scroll down to the bottom to see our awesome photo! Woot!
