Our friend Lori (a fellow Jazzercise instructor—I know, what a shock) threw us a puppy shower on Friday night. I didn't even know there was such a thing! She did cute doggie decorations and had us play a “Guess the Poop” game, where you had to correctly identify melted chocolate bars. The favors were bundles of dog treats to take home for your own pup. So sweet.
Check out the cake: Burnt Almond (freaking yum!) from the famous Dick’s Bakery in Willow Glen. Adorable!
Marley had a great time socializing with his guests. We didn’t invite dogs this time because he hasn’t had all his shots. Marley really enjoys playing with kids; He met Connor and Phillip (my godson and his brother) for the first time, and made a new friend—Britney—who looked after him as he did the meet and greet.
He loved all the people, music and excitement. It seems he’s a regular “Man of the Party,” just like his Daddy.
Opening presents was his favorite part. He played with each toy before anticipating the next. It’s hard to say which ones are going to be his favorites!
Here’s a great ego-booster. It went out on the front porch immediately. I’m sure our neighbors are afraid, very afraid.
I have some bad news. Apparently Marley is a pretty heavy drinker...
…And sometimes likes to hit up the Mutt-inis. (Check out his spiffy party collar...thank you Lori!)
By the end of the evening he was toast. The little guy even slept through the night!
Thank you so much to everyone who joined us in welcoming Marley, and to those who sent best wishes and gifts. Our little boy is certainly loved! We're very happy that he has so many great friends. XO
I'm extremely lucky. Adam and his inner chef do all the cooking in our house...which of course leaves me with plenty of time to cook for Marley! Actually it doesn't take all that long and I freeze enough for a month. We mix this stew with his Innova EVO kibble. Here's the basic recipe. (Your cube size depends on the size of your dog.)
Doggie Stew
1 lb boneless chicken thighs, small cubes browned in a smidge of olive oil
3 cups cooked rice
1 cup salad macaroni, uncooked
28 oz can diced tomatoes with juice
28 oz low-sodium chicken broth
2-6 cups water (depending on how soupy you want it)
4 yukon gold potatoes, small cubes
4 carrots, thin slices or small cubes
2 zucchinis, small cubes
24 oz frozen peas
Place tomatoes/juice, chicken broth and water in a stock pot and boil. Add potatoes and carrots; cook at med-high for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add zucchini and macaroni; cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir in chicken, rice and peas. Divide into one-week portions and freeze. Makes up to 8 quarts, depending on how much water included. Recipe may be doubled.
Next time I'm going to throw in some fresh organic spinach leaves and maybe some fuji apples. You can vary the veggies or meat. Imagine the possibilities! Marley LOVES this stew, and I'm so happy he's getting vitamins and minerals from fresh foods. Look at how big he's gotten! I took this picture today—he's 11 weeks. I love him. How did we ever live without him?
Frenchies are famous for their "bat ears." They are born with floppy ones that eventually stand up as they get older. Little Marley's ears came up on Tuesday.
Talk about mixed emotions! I was all excited that he looks like a true frenchie, but I was also a little sad that he's growing up. Puppyhood is going so fast! I'm trying to savor every moment. Oh man I love him.
In other news, he has his own Web page on Dogster.com. He's in a Toad Alley Frenchies group with some of his siblings and extended family members. Click here to check it out. Happy Friday!
The most fantastic thing happened today. We went to Pinole to meet Atlas (see previous blog) and the frenchie puppies. We were surprised to find out we got pick of the litter. Amazing! Here's our boy, who will come this Saturday. His ears will probably be standing up by then!
Now the big question is what to name him. I like Spanky (aka Spanx); Adam likes Marley. We're going to research names this week and then wait to pick one until we spend some time with him. Any suggestions?
BIG news y'all! Adam and I are adopting a sweet baby boy! We'll soon find out which one will be ours and he'll be ready to come home on August 4th. We have LOTS of preparing to do! The pups are five weeks right now...
Descriptions from Toad Alley, the breeder: Boston is vocal and complains when things are not right. If it is too hot or too cold, he will be the one crying. He is smaller than Saddle and more active. Saddle boy will be more active than some of the super-mellow pups, but still is very cuddly. The pups are starting to wrestle, and learning that other pups bite you back when you try to clamp on their ear. (Their ears will be coming up soon!)
Here are the parents...
I heart frenchies.
