I'm extremely lucky. Adam and his inner chef do all the cooking in our house...which of course leaves me with plenty of time to cook for Marley! Actually it doesn't take all that long and I freeze enough for a month. We mix this stew with his Innova EVO kibble. Here's the basic recipe. (Your cube size depends on the size of your dog.)
Doggie Stew
1 lb boneless chicken thighs, small cubes browned in a smidge of olive oil
3 cups cooked rice
1 cup salad macaroni, uncooked
28 oz can diced tomatoes with juice
28 oz low-sodium chicken broth
2-6 cups water (depending on how soupy you want it)
4 yukon gold potatoes, small cubes
4 carrots, thin slices or small cubes
2 zucchinis, small cubes
24 oz frozen peas
Place tomatoes/juice, chicken broth and water in a stock pot and boil. Add potatoes and carrots; cook at med-high for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add zucchini and macaroni; cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir in chicken, rice and peas. Divide into one-week portions and freeze. Makes up to 8 quarts, depending on how much water included. Recipe may be doubled.
Next time I'm going to throw in some fresh organic spinach leaves and maybe some fuji apples. You can vary the veggies or meat. Imagine the possibilities! Marley LOVES this stew, and I'm so happy he's getting vitamins and minerals from fresh foods. Look at how big he's gotten! I took this picture today—he's 11 weeks. I love him. How did we ever live without him?
Frenchies are famous for their "bat ears." They are born with floppy ones that eventually stand up as they get older. Little Marley's ears came up on Tuesday.
Talk about mixed emotions! I was all excited that he looks like a true frenchie, but I was also a little sad that he's growing up. Puppyhood is going so fast! I'm trying to savor every moment. Oh man I love him.
In other news, he has his own Web page on Dogster.com. He's in a Toad Alley Frenchies group with some of his siblings and extended family members. Click here to check it out. Happy Friday!
